The right wing nuts have never found a controversy they can't find a way to profit from, and sadly the latest mass murder at the Sandy Hook Elementary school has been added to that sick, sick list. You'll recall that not long after the Trayvon Martin shooting, the NRA came out with a new item in their online store: concealed carry hoodies? If you thought that was as low as gun fanatics could go, well, they'd barely scraped bottom with that one.
Now, in the spirit of the recent show your anti-gay with Chick-Fil-A protest, several conservatives, gun supporters, Tea Party groups and pro-gun PACs are holding a new event in protest of talk of the need for more strict gun laws in the wake of that mass murder of first graders and their teachers:
“The Obama administration has shown that it is more than willing to trample the Constitution to impose its dictates upon the American people,” said Gun Appreciation Day chairman Larry Ward, president of Political Media, Inc. “If the American people don’t fight back now, Obama will do to the Second Amendment what he has already done to the First with Obamacare — gut it without a moment’s thought to our basic constitutional rights.”
The group is urging gun-supporters to “line up ‘around the block’ at gun stores, gun counters, gun shows, and gun ranges to protest the Obama administration’s post Sandy Hook assault on gun rights.”
The press release lists a whole lot of conservative tea-party groups backing the protest, including Second Amendment Foundation, Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, Special Operations Speaks, Revolution PAC, Citizens and Country, Social Security Institute, Committee to Draft Judge Andrew Napolitano, Conservative Action Alerts, Women Warriors PAC, and Conservative Action Fund.
The group has website that is just downright festive in it's celebration of all things related to firearms, from its Fourth of July style banner and Facebook ready memes, to the smiling young lady getting ready to fire her very own fashionable little red pistol. Sure, they claim it's all about freedom and the constitution, and the fact that in the last four years that threat of Obama taking away their guns that never happened as promised really will now, just you wait!
Because everyone knows that a well regulated militia is really a cute little lady with a gun to match her wardrobe, or a big he-man with an entire arsenal of weapons. The bigger the gun and the more bullets, the better! Just as the founders intended! If an entire elementary school classroom filled with 6 and 7 year olds happens to be in session when one of those weapons hoarders with a screw loose decides to start shooting, well that's just the price of freedom in the minds of the NRA and these gun appreciating "patriots!"
What better way to show your appreciation for guns than to literally hold a special day that says you celebrate the ability of any crackpot who can to get a hold of an assault rifle and to murder innocent children? Because call it whatever you want, that's what it really is. And it's not about President Obama wanting to take away all your guns. It's the majority of Americans, some lawmakers and the President who want to get weapons that have no purpose other than to commit a mass murder, and quickly, off the streets. If that's not in your game plan, then what's the problem?
They say it's all about an assault on their gun rights that really matters to these people. But the rights of 6 year olds to be able to attend school without being murdered or used for target practice? Not so much.
What a sick bunch.
