Thanks For Nothing

As we head off to join family and friends this holiday to give thanks for all that we have, we also owe thanks to Republicans and their policies. Because of them, there are a lot more of those who will have less this Thanksgiving. The poor are rarely acknowledged, the middle class is gone, and chances are the next to go will be the "upper" middle class, because the one thing the GOP refuses to give up are little or no taxes for the rich. They can whine and complain about government spending and entitlements all they want, but those are merely empty words and they know it. More and more of us have to pay the price to keep the richest among us (including the millionaires in the House and the Senate) in the manner to which they've become accustomed. Instead, they expect everyday Americans to give up a living wage, health care, and safety nets, while the country and its infrastructure deteriorates.

A new poll shows Floridians overwhelmingly favor legalizing medical marijuana: 

The poll also showed that voters overwhelmingly support legal use of marijuana if prescribed by a doctor for medical reasons, with 82 percent in favor and 16 percent opposed.

So naturally, Pam Bondi, Rick Scott, and the Florida GOP are fighting against it, as they do with most anything else that their constituents want, like health care and the right to vote.

Rick Scott: Still Tanking After All These Years

Gubernatorial train wreck Rick Scott remains very unpopular. Who knew?

The latest  Quinnipiac poll has him 7 points behind newly announced Democratic challenger Charlie Crist:

Republican-turned-Democrat Charlie Crist is leading Republican Gov. Rick Scott by 7 points in a poll released Thursday, but the lead is much closer than it was seven months ago.

More voters, 53 percent, said he doesn't deserve a second term, compared to 37 percent who say he does. And Scott's approval remains low, with 42 percent of respondents saying he's doing a good job and 47 percent saying he isn't.

Meanwhile, an "informal poll" of Rick Scott's popularity was conducted yesterday in Orlando and, well, you can hear these results for yourself, below:

Last month Rick Scott began sending out taxpayer funded letters to those receiving new or renewed business licenses in Florida. Those letters, which at the time, numbered 425,596, echoed Rick Scott campaign talking points and stated his "goals" for Florida: Making Florida the “No. 1 place for business,” lowering the cost of living, and making sure school’s “prepare students for the career or college of their dreams.” That he would appear to be using taxpayer funded letters to campaign prompted the group Florida For All to file a Freedom Of Information Act request to ask just that question.

Now Scott is up to the same thing elsewhere.

This is part of what Marco Rubio said in a speech at an anti-gay fundraiser over the weekend for the Florida Family Policy Council, which he attended just days after voting against ENDA because preventing discrimination against gays would only lead to frivolous lawsuits. The group is behind the petition drive to a gay marriage ban on the ballot in Florida.

Let's face it, Rick Scott is never going to get good, favorable poll numbers. He likely recognizes that too, considering he thumbs his nose at everyday Floridians, save a little window dressing here and there.

But in spite of bending over backwards to please conservatives and the Tea Party crowd, well, it looks like he's losing them too.
