There's a really good reason the Republicans are stepping up in their now desperate attempts to do anything they can to slow down or crush the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare:
In spite of a rocky start and a glitchy website, it's working. Working pretty well, I might add.
From Think Progress:
The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that between 40,000 and 50,000 uninsured Americans signed up for health care coverage in the 36 states where the federal government is running the Obamacare exchanges, offering the very first estimate of the administration’s progress in implementing the Affordable Care Act. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is expected to release official figures later this week.
Among the enrollment facts and figures, they explain more in detail:
- More than 500,000 have signed up for insurance overall
- People are enrolling despite an error-ridden website
- The Massachusetts experience predicted low early enrollment
- New public programs slowly ramp up to coverage
- The government didn’t market Obamacare
- People less likely to sign up now for coverage that begins in January
