As you've no doubt heard by now, Kevin McCarthy, aka the Speaker in waiting who couldn't speak, has taken himself out of the running for the job John Boehner is fleeing.
Many said he wasn't exactly up to the job and it shows. (And let's be honest, are any of the Republicans really up to it?) After all, before his current job in the House, he was a Whip who couldn't count.
First he made the mistake of telling the truth, that the GOP Benghazi witch hunt was little more than a taxpayer funded GOP campaign operation designed to keep Hillary Clinton from becoming President. Then he made a "foreign policy" speech where he spoke of his many travels, including a trip to "Hungria," that made Sarah Palin look like a scholar. (Just kidding. That's impossible.)
Now that he's bailing on what would have been a lost Speaker election, he's talking again.
In a phone interview with the National Review’s Rich Lowry, McCarthy said that he would not have “enjoyed being speaker this way” and speculated the House may need to hit “rock bottom” before it can become governable.
"Ungovernable?" Really? What was his first clue? Because those of us residing in reality have been pointing that out for years, and McCarthy's been right there helping with the "ungoverning" as he might say. But he just noticed there might be a problem today? He's a quick one, that McCarthy. That's like the captain of the Titanic saying "I think the ship is going down" just as the water is closing in on the last part of visible deck.
These are the same Republicans who made a pact to say "no" to everything President Obama tried to do, not to mention anything the Democrats tried to do. Many of them stormed into Washington vowing to shut it down. What did McCarthy and the rest of the wrecking crew think the result would be?
As for saying they may need to hit "rock bottom" before they're capable of governing again, what exactly is his idea of "rock bottom?" What would that look like, considering this?
Yes, these are the same Republicans who have spent years saying "Why won't President Obama lead?" They're the same ones who accused quite possibly the most brilliant President we've ever had of "leading from behind." Those very same Republicans are now without a leader of their own, and they're hiding from the press and crying like babies, if Rep. King is to be believed.
The bad news is, as they head over the cliff, they're incompetence is taking the rest of us with them.
